IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE POCSO ACT
Dear Students and Parents,
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act is a critical piece of legislation aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse, exploitation and harassment. This law is designed to ensure that children under the age of 18 years are protected from any form of abuse and it mandates strict action against offenders.
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all our students, please take note of the following important instructions related to the POCSO Act:
Rights and Responsibilities of Students:
- Right to Safety: Every child has the right to be safe, respected and free from any form of abuse, whether physical, emotional or sexual.
- Personal Boundaries: Understand and respect personal boundaries. No one is allowed to touch, harass or make anyone feel uncomfortable in any way, either physically or emotionally.
- Speak Up: If you are ever subjected to or witness any form of abuse, you are encouraged to speak up. You can reach out to a trusted teacher, counsellor or school authority or contact the police if necessary.
- Confidentiality: Reports of abuse will be handled with the utmost confidentiality to protect the privacy of the child involved.
Role of Parents:
- Be proactive in discussing safety and respect for one’s body with your children. Encourage them to speak up and let them know that they will be supported.
- Stay informed about the school’s safety protocols and be involved in your child’s emotional and social development. It is crucial to be supportive and vigilant for any signs of distress or unusual behaviour.
The school will ensure that any such incident will be handled with utmost confidentially, with the safety of the child as our priority.
Remember, together, we can create a safe and nurturing environment for all our children.
Thank you for your cooperation.
